- Breastmilk provides all the nutrients your baby needs for the first
4 to 6 months of life.
- Breastfed babies are generally healthier. They tend to have less
diarrhea, ear infections, colds, etc. There are factors in breastmilk
that provide protection against viruses and bacteria and help fight
disease.
- Breastfeeding is free! It saves you time and money.
- Breastfeeding is more convenient. You won't have to sterilize bottles,
mix formula, chill it and reheat it. It's always ready when the baby
wants to eat. Night time feedings are easier. No fixing and warming
bottles in the middle of the night.
- Breastfeeding aids in natural weight loss, burning an extra 500
calories a day. It helps you get your shape back faster and it helps
your uterus shrink back to its normal size quicker.
- Breastmilk is easily digested. Breastfed babies don't get constipated
and have less stomach upsets and colic.
- Laudry is easier. Breastmilk does not stain. Spit-ups and diapers
have less unpleasant smell.
- Breastfeeding can reduce the risk of certain types of cancer in
women who breastfeed.
- Breastfeeding can prevent or lessen the severity of allergies in
your child. There is also a lower rate of juvenile diabetes in breastfed
children.
- Emotionally and physically it feels good to nurse. You are physically
relieved of the milk and hormones released during breastfeeding, relaxing
you and the baby. It's an opportunity to give affection, love, security
and good nutrition all at the same time.
