About Us
GMA represents the Adult Primary Care Division of the Department of Medicine at the Beth Israel Medical Center, New York. Our practice provides primary care services to the local community, as well as to the surrounding areas.

Our mission is to increase the capacity toward optimal health and well-being and we seek to carry out our mission by keeping in alignment with three core principles:

Our Services
Our scope of services includes diagnosis, treatment, management and prevention of diseases and illnesses, as well as collaboration with consultation services, ancillary services, social services and community resources.

We provide health care for a broad and complex range of acute and chronic diseases and conditions, which include, but are not limited to, diabetes, hypertension, asthma, heart disease, chronic bronchitis/emphysema, pain, high cholesterol, obesity, sleep apnea, arthritis, tobacco use, depression and anxiety.

Preventive services include the coordination of screening tests for breast cancer, cervical cancer, colon cancer and osteoporosis, as well as travel medicine, adult vaccinations, sleep apnea and preoperative medicine.

We regularly monitor the quality of our care and obtain feedback from our patients through patient satisfaction surveys. We continuously pursue innovative practices to advance our health care offerings.

Dedicated Physicians
The physicians at General Medical Associates are on staff at Beth Israel Medical Center and are clinician-educators at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.  As educators, we are knowledgeable of the most recent advances in clinical medical practice, evidence-based medicine, and accepted practice guidelines. Each year, we train approximately 100 internal medicine residents.

Convenient Location
General Medical Associates is located at 10 Union Square East, suites 3G, H, and J at the Phillips Ambulatory Care Center.  We are accessible by subway, bus and car.

Appointments, Cancellations
Please call (212) 844-8100, and press 2 to schedule or cancel an appointment.  We have a 24-hour cancellation policy.  If you’re unable to keep your appointment, please call to cancel, as a courtesy to other patients who may need an appointment.  We reserve the right to discharge patients who miss three or more appointments without calling to cancel.

General Medical Associates is open Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 8 pm

Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. 

Urgent Care
If you feel that you need immediate care regarding any health issue, please contact our office at (212) 844-8100, and press 3.  If your condition is a medical emergency, call 911.

Prescriptions
To request a prescription refill, call (212) 844-8100, and press 4. Please have the following information available:

• First and last name
• Date of birth
• Your phone number
• Name and dosage of your medication
• Name and telephone number of your pharmacy 

A nurse will verify the doctor’s order in your medical record and contact your pharmacy within two to three days of your call.  Please do not wait until your prescription runs out to contact us.  Some prescription refills may require that you first see your doctor. 

Authorizations/Referrals
If your insurance requires that you receive a referral, before seeking care from a specialist, you may obtain a signed referral during your General Medical Associates appointment or you may call our office at (212) 844-8100, and press 5.  Please request your referral in advance of your specialty appointment.  Referrals may take 24-48 hours for processing.  Some referrals may require that you to see your primary care doctor first.

Test Results
If your test results are satisfactory, you will receive a letter from your doctor.  If the results are not satisfactory, your doctor will call you.

If you have a question regarding your bill, please contact our Professional Billing Office at (800) 808-5522.

Please note that your co-pay (if you have one) is due prior to your appointment.

Staff
GMA is staffed by attending physicians, podiatrists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, nursing care technicians, secretaries, patient services representatives and medical record personnel. All of our faculty physicians maintain academic positions with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
