Summary:
This study aims to explore the cognitive effects and associated quality of life issues following treatment with chemotherapy in premenopausal women with early stage breast cancer.  Patients’ cognitive function (such as memory and attention) will be assessed with a battery of tests as well as personal quality of life ratings (such as mood and sleep quality), before, and ending 6-9 months after, breast cancer treatment. A key component of the study is to determine the relative contributions of chemotherapy and chemotherapy induced estrogen depletion to these cognitive changes.

Eligibility:
This study is recruiting premenopausal women aged 21 to 50 undergoing breast cancer surgery who are scheduled to receive three to six months of adjuvant chemotherapy and who have at least a fifth grade English competency. Please call for more information.

Benefits and/or Compensation:
At the end of each of the three evaluations, all participants will receive $100 in cash to cover transportation, parking, or other costs incurred.  In addition, this study will provide physicians with better information about the cognitive function and quality of life of breast cancer survivors.
