Ultrasound for Gynecology

Long Island College Hospital is one of the few centers in Brooklyn to offer ultrasound imaging services in one location for both obstetrics and gynecology. Ultrasound, which uses sound waves to obtain images from inside the body, is a safe, and a highly-effective diagnostic tool.

Our personnel are specially trained in the use of the latest technologies and methods for interpreting imaging results. The LICH OB-GYN Ultrasound Unit is accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine

LICH is pleased to offer patients the most up-to-date equipment, including three- and a four-dimensional imaging. Real-time motion is the fourth dimension and is a breakthrough tool for studying a baby’s surface anatomy or problems related to the woman’s uterus or ovaries.

Ultrasound for obstetrics

We offer a complete range of ultrasound imaging services for pregnant women and their babies. Among the routine ultrasound procedures performed during pregnancy are:

• First trimester evaluation, including nuchal fold determination.
• Early second trimester and third trimester anatomical evaluation.
• Fetal anomaly screening
• Multiple pregnancy evaluation.
• Fetal echocardiography.
• Miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy screening..

The LICH ultrasound specialists also perform
• Routine pre-natal testing.
• Nuchal translucency.
• Level II screening that investigates for specific anatomic fetal abnormalities.
• Genetic amniocentesis.
• Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS).
• Fetal blood sampling.

Ultrasound for gynecology

Pelvic ultrasound is generally used to obtain images of the uterus and the ovaries. Examinations can help:
• Determine the causes of pelvic pain and menstrual problems.
• Identify cysts and fibroids.
• Evaluate intrauterine devices (IUDs).
• Evaluate the endometrial lining.
• Monitor patients undergoing ovarian stimulation.
• Evaluate patients undergoing Tamoxifen treatment.

LICH offers specialty ultrasound examinations, such as hysterosonography, a relatively new technique for viewing the uterus, and color doppler studies of ovarian masses.
