When violence happens, the individual may feel isolated from the rest of the world, even from close friends and
family. For all women and men who have been abused, there is a wide range of emotions that they will experience,
many of them frustrating and confusing.
There is an enormous network for people who have gone through the same experience and have felt the same emotions.
Their past experience can help you get through troubled and tough times by sharing their stories and getting you
appropriate and professional help. You can also use your survival to help others when the time is right. First
and foremost: be patient with yourself or those around you if they have survived a crime. Allow yourself to experience
a range of emotions - it is all part of the process of dealing with what has happened.
